NFL Power Rankings: Divisional Playoffs Week

The Denver Broncos remain rated No. 1 in the NFL Sports Power Rankings, as the NFL playoffs reach the divisional round.

The Broncos will face No. 10 San Diego Chargers with a berth in the AFC championship game on the line Sunday in Denver. San Diego defeated the heavily favored Broncos in Denver on December 12.

The other AFC divisional playoff matchup feature’s one of the NFL’s best rivalries, No. 8 New England hosting No. 12 Indianapolis, the teams fourth post-season meeting in the last 11 years.

In the NFC, No. 2 San Francisco travels to No. 6 Carolina. The Panthers have won four straight and eight of their last 10 games against the 49ers, the defending NFC champions.

No. 3 Seattle hosts No. 5 New Orleans in the other NFC divisional playoff game. The Seahawks whipped the Saints 34-7 on December 2.

NFL Power Rankings: Final Regular Season

The Denver Broncos and the San Francisco 49ers are projected to reach the Super Bowl, accoring to the final regular-season NFL Sports Power Rankings.

The No. 1 Broncos won four of their final five games to clinch the number one seed and home field advantage in the AFC playoffs. The Broncos will play either No. 12 San Diego or the winner of the No. 7 Kansas City vs. No. 11 Indianapolis game in the divisional playoffs next weekend.

The No. 2 49ers, the fifth seed in the NFC playoffs, will meet the No. 23 Green Bay Packers at frigid Lambeau Field in Green Bay Sunday.

Other projected winners in thie weekend’s wild card playoff games include No. 5 New Orleans over No. 10 Philadelphia, and No. 4 Cincinnati over the Chargers.

NFL Power Rankings: Week 17

The Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers remain atop the NFL Sports Power Rankings, heading into the final week of the 2013 NFL season.

The Broncos can clinch home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs with a win at No. 30 Oakland on Sunday. The 49ers have clinched a playoff berth, but need to defeat No. 9 Arizona this week to have a shot at winning the NFC West, earning a first-round bye, and/or earning the home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs.

No new teams entered the top ten in the NFL Power Rankings, although Carolina and Seattle flip-flopped at No. 3 and No. 4; Cincinnati and New Orleans switched spots at No. 5 and No. 7; and No. 8 New England and Arizona swapped places.

The two most improved teams this week are San Diego, up four places to No. 11; and Philadelphia, which improved by seven slots to No. 12 after waxing the Chicago Bears 54-11 on Sunday Night Football.

The Bears subsequently fell four spots to No. 18. Baltimore took the biggest drop in the NFL Power Rankings, falling five spots to No. 21.

MLB Sports Power Rankings — Week 26

The Oakland Athletics have climbed back to the top spot in the MLB Sports Power Rankings, just ahead of the surging Cleveland Indians.

The A’s clinched their second straight AL West title over the weekend, and now will try to catch the third-ranked Boston Red Sox for the best record in the AL and the home field advantage during the playoffs.

The Indians, clinging tightly to the second AL wild-card berth, became the first team in 52 years to post six sweeps of a four-game series in a season with a four-game sweep of the 30th-ranked Houston Astros over the weekend.

Just ahead of the Indians in the tight AL wild-card race are the fourth-ranked Tampa Bay Rays, who finished their own four-game sweep of the fading Baltimore Orioles Monday afternoon. The Orioles and the Pittsbugh Pirates both dropped nine places in the MLB Sports Power Rankings this week, although the Pirates still managed to clinch a playoff spot Monday.

The Cincinnati Reds are the NL’s top ranked team, moving up one spot overall this week to fifth.
