Despite walloping the Denver Broncos by 35 points in the Super Bowl, the Seattle Seahawks managed to improve to just the second spot in the final 2013 NFL Sports Power Rankings, one spot behind the Broncos.
Seattle finished with a rating of .807, compared to the Broncos’ final rating of .864. The ratings indicate the strength of each club relative to the average team. With a rating of 1.000 equal to 14.487 points, Denver would be projected to defeat the average team by 12.5 points, while Seattle would be favored by 11.7 points against the same average team.
The Seahawks moved up from the number four spot in the NFL Power Rankings prior to the Super Bowl. Denver remained in the top spot in the NFL Power Rankings through the final six weeks of the regular season and throughout the NFL playoffs.
Both clubs had just two unavenged losses this season. The Broncos lost to Indianapolis on October 20 and to the Seahawks in the Super Bowl. Seattle’s two unavenged losses were to Indianapolis and Arizona, the latter defeat coming in week 16.
